It is a very scenic winter trail. Tall mountains were around us the whole time, it was truly a panoramic path.
I came across this route as it is relatively close to Zürich, where we stayed. It does not require snowshoes and promises great views. And they were great indeed.
What makes this area unique are weird cone-shaped hills/mountains, spreading around the area. Those hills actually originated from volcanos, hence the shape.
What makes this park unique is interesting sandstone rock formations that spread throughout the park, creating a feeling of walking in a canyon.
As I was browsing for a day hike in a somewhat hilly area, Nijmegen caught my attention. My best hiking friend mapy.cz showed me some hilly sections with hiking trails next to Nijmegen, let’s go!
We started very early, hitting the trail at 5:30 already. Apart from trying to beat the crowds (it’s a veeery popular hike, people), we wanted to avoid afternoon thunderstorms that love visiting the High Tatras too.
This national park is a go-to place for hikers and climbers. Two beautiful canyons of Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica will keep you busy and ensure stunning views all around the park.
